Worcester Redevelopment Authority Seeks Public Input on Union Station Event Space Operations

By What’s Up Worcester Staff
WORCESTER The Worcester Redevelopment Authority (WRA) has announced plans to issue a Request for Proposals to select a new tenant for the Grand Hall event operations and the adjoining restaurant space at Union Station. The current lease, held by Maxwell Luciano’s, is scheduled to expire on June 30, 2026.
Before formally advertising the Request for Proposals in March, the WRA is hosting a public listening session to gather feedback from Worcester residents. The meeting is designed to collect community input regarding the future use and operations of the venue space.
The listening session will take place on Wednesday, February 25 at 5 p.m. It will be held on the second floor of Union Station inside the Cannabis Control Commission conference room.
WRA Chair Michael Angelini stated that the upcoming session is an opportunity to maximize the utility of the space and gather fresh perspectives from the community.
Union Station, originally constructed in 1911 and extensively restored between 1998 and 2000, functions as a central transit hub for the city. Alongside its transportation services, the building’s Grand Hall is frequently used for banquets, weddings, and public gatherings, with food and beverage services provided by the adjoining restaurant space.
Peter Dunn, the chief executive officer of the WRA, noted the authority’s appreciation for Maxwell Luciano’s 18 years of operation at the site. He added that the impending lease expiration requires the WRA to solicit new proposals to find an operator that aligns with the future needs of the station.
Residents interested in the future of the venue space are encouraged to attend the February 25 listening session.
